Thomas Jefferson one of the American President of÷š the÷š past÷š was

born in Virginia in 1743. When he was 14 years÷š old,÷š his÷š father

died and the young boy was left to choose for himself what to do.

Jefferson studied literature and languages. He also studied to be

a lawyer, and later he wrote many of the Virginia÷š laws.÷š One÷š of

the laws for which he worked very much was a law÷š to÷š allow÷š many

child to go to school free. Schools in America were only for÷š the

children whose parents were rich.÷š When÷š Jefferson÷š was÷š still÷š a

young man he was one of those who wanted÷š freedom÷š from÷š England.

His most outstanding÷š archivment÷š was÷š as÷š chief÷š author÷š of÷š the

Declaration of Independence, a÷š statement ÷šof÷š human÷š rights÷š and

liberties. It was read to the happy people on the÷š 4th÷š of÷š July,

1776. Jefferson also drew up÷š the÷š constitution÷š for÷š his÷š state,

Virginia, and served as its governor. He was sent÷š to÷š France÷š as

the÷š foreign÷š minister÷š of÷š the÷š United÷š States÷š of÷š America÷š and

afterwards was President's Washington secretary of state.÷š A÷š few

years later he became the country's third president,÷š serving÷š in

this position for 2 terms.÷š The÷š author÷š of÷š the÷š Declaration÷š of

Independence did another important thing for the American people.

He worked out a plan for a÷š university÷š where÷š the÷š students÷š and

teachers could live and work together÷š in÷š a÷š village÷š build÷š for

them. It was one of the first schools to teach science. Today, it

is the university of Virginia. This well known÷š man÷š was÷š also÷š a

self-tought architect. He introduced the simple classical÷š design

to America when he designed the Virginia State Capital÷š Building.

He also designed his own home, he remained the÷š most÷š influencial

architect of his time. Thomas Jefferson did÷š many÷š useful÷š things

during his life time÷š and÷š he÷š always÷š thought÷š of÷š how÷š to÷š help

ordinary people. He was a÷š practical÷š and÷š theoretical÷š scientist

too. Jefferson's best traditions have been kept÷š up÷š by÷š American

prograssive people in their struggle for peace and democracy.
