÷š÷š÷š÷š Topic N9 ("The Ecological Crisis: A Myth or Reality")
At the present time the Earth accomodates÷š more÷š then÷š 5÷š billion
people. Half of which are undernourished. A total÷š of÷š 4÷š million
deaths÷š occureach÷š year÷š fro÷š starvation.÷š Mankind÷š has÷š÷š finally
realised the threat of an increasing population and has faced the
fact that something must be done. The food-supply÷š increase÷š lags
considerably behind the immense÷š growth÷š of÷š population.÷š Besides
conditions for life grow steadily worse due to numerous facets of
environmental pollution. And worst of all, today's man constently
contributes to his own deadly crisis. We have got too many÷š cars,
too many factories, too÷š much÷š sewage÷š and÷š carbon÷š dioxide,÷š too
little water and food deficiency - all that can be÷š easily÷š taced
to too many people. That is why many western scientists say÷š that
our world is going through an ecological crisis which÷š will÷š mean
the gradual destruction of the human race. Our scientists are not
that pessimistic, although they do÷š think÷š that÷š man's÷š increased
tampering with the world around him is posing a growing threat to
the biosphere. It is not too late÷š to÷š forestall÷š what÷š could÷š be
drastic and irreversible changes in the÷š environment÷š and÷š ensure
that the world will be a healthy place for the present and future
generations to live in.
