÷š÷š÷š÷š÷š÷š÷š÷š÷š÷š÷š÷š÷š÷š÷š÷š Topic N1 ("Choosing a Career")
÷š÷š÷š÷š Choosing a career is like any other activity; it is best÷š to
work to a plan. Too many people start looking for a specific÷š job
before thinking out their occupational aims. It is a good idea to
begin÷š by÷š attempting÷š to÷š define÷š in÷š clear÷š terms÷š what÷š÷š÷š your
requirements are from a career. This involves taking a÷š realistic
view of your strengths and weaknesses. You may think for example,
that you would like a job which involves organizing÷š people,÷š but
liking such a job is not a sufficient justification if experience
you already may have suggests that this is not your strong point.
On the other hand, you should remember that training willl÷š equip
you to do new things. A further point to consider is how far÷š you
will be willing to do for a time things which÷š you÷š do÷š not÷š like
knowing that they÷š are÷š necessary÷š to÷š achive÷š your÷š longer÷š term
objectives. Having thought carefully about the sort of person you
are, try to work out a realistic set pf occupational÷š requirment.
In particular, you can answer to important questions. First: what
sort of life do you want to lead? For example,÷š do÷š you÷š want÷š to
live in the country or in the town?÷š Is÷š leisure÷š time÷š of÷š great
importance to you? Is the size of your salary important?÷š Do÷š you
want to put down roots or travel videly?÷š Second:÷š what÷š sort÷š of
work do you want to do? For example, do you like working alone or
with others? Does teaching people appeal to you? Do you÷š want÷š to
be an organizer of other people's÷š activities?÷š Do÷š you÷š want÷š to
develop new ideas and initiate changes.
÷š÷š÷š÷š As for me, I have made up my mind to be an engineer.÷š As÷š my
parents are an engineeres they have made a great influence on÷š my
choice and I can say that this profession÷š runs÷š the÷š family.÷š My
choice of this occupation didn't come as a sudden flash. I÷š think
that nowdays this profession is of great need and÷š importance÷š to
our country. It is my aim to be a÷š qualified÷š specialist÷š and÷š to
serve the interests of my country. To be a well prepared engineer
I÷š should÷š have÷š some÷š important÷š qualities:÷š÷š great÷š÷š capability
persistance, knowledge of÷š science÷š and, of course,÷š knowledge of
foreign languages. In÷š spite of÷š these arguments we musn't forget
about everybody's vacation. I think that my÷š facilities÷š combined
with the knowledge would be quiet enough to succeed in my work.
